Step 1: Focus Your Heart

Action: Allow your awareness to move from your mind to the area of your heart.

Result: This sends a signal to your heart that a shift has taken place—you are no longer engaged in the world around you and are now becoming aware of the world within you.

Step 2: Slow Your Breathing

Action: Begin to breathe a little more slowly than usual, allowing five to six seconds for your inhale and exhale.

Result: This simple step sends a second signal to your body that you are safe and in a place that supports your process. Deep, slow breathing has long been known to stimulate a relaxation response of the nervous system (the parasympathetic response).

Step 3: Feel a Rejuvenating Feeling

Action: To the best of your ability, feel a genuine sense of caring, appreciation, gratitude, or compassion for anything or anyone.

Result: The key to success here is for your feeling to be as sincere and heartfelt as possible. As described previously, it’s the quality of this feeling that fine-tunes and optimizes the coherence between your heart and your brain. While everyone is capable of this experience, it’s one of those processes that you may need to experiment with to find what works best for you.

Step 4: Ask Your Heart Intelligence a Question

Action: The previous three steps create the harmony between your brain and your heart that enables you to tap into your heart’s wisdom. As you continue to breathe and hold the focus in your heart,  this is the time to ask your question.

Result: Heart intelligence generally works best when the questions are brief and to the point. Remember, your heart doesn’t need a preface or the history of a situation before the question. Ask your question silently as a single concise sentence and then allow your heart’s wisdom to respond in a way that works for you.

Step 5: Listen

Action: Become aware of how your body feels immediately as you are asking your question. Make a note of any sensations such as warmth, tingling, ringing of the ears, and emotions that may arise. Everyone learns and experiences uniquely. There is no correct or incorrect way of receiving your heart’s wisdom. The key here is to know what works best for you.

Soul Knowledge Beyond Our Thinking Brain

All beings with souls are extensions of God. Therefore, all beings are also God. This is what Jesus taught. In John 10:34, Jesus references Psalm 82:6, which states, “I said, ‘You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.'”  We’re all children of God, and God is found by going within, to the soul connection.

The idea that souls are extensions of God, or part of God’s essence, is a common belief across various religious and philosophical traditions. It suggests that souls, the essence of a person’s being, are connected to or originate from a higher power. This connection can be seen as a reflection of God’s image in humanity, or as a direct manifestation of God’s presence within us. 

Your Soul, or Higher Self, is the real you. This is the part of you that has access to knowledge your thinking brain does not. It’s the part of you that is eternal and can never be destroyed. All experiences go towards our soul’s growth.
Anyone can connect to their Soul or Higher Self, and ask questions, and receive answers. The heart is often viewed as a central point of connection with this higher self. By nurturing the heart, individuals may feel more connected to their inner wisdom and spiritual potential.

While there’s no scientific proof that the heart-brain connection is the direct pathway to a ‘higher self,’ many spiritual and holistic practices suggest it plays a crucial role in connecting with a deeper, more intuitive aspect of oneself.  It is known that the heart and brain are in constant communication so doesn’t it make sense that our hearts are guiding our thoughts? 

The heart, in these contexts, is often viewed as a center of intuition, emotional intelligence, and spiritual awareness. It is believed to send emotional and intuitive signals to the brain that guide our thoughts, choices, and actions.
The HeartMath Institute’s research revealed the heart is not merely a pump, but an intelligent organ with its own complex nervous system.

This heart system is often referred to as a “mini-brain” or the intrinsic cardiac nervous system (ICNS). It’s a network of neurons, neurotransmitters, and support cells are similar to those found in the brain. This discovery has led to a reevaluation of how the heart functions.

Heartmath research suggests that aligning the heart’s rhythm with our thoughts and feelings can lead to a state of coherence, which promotes well-being and resilience.  Some believe that tapping into this connection can lead to a heightened sense of intuition, allowing individuals to access inner wisdom and guidance.

Many spiritual practices encourage visualization and meditation techniques to connect with the heart center and the higher self and allow individuals to cultivate a deeper sense of awareness and intuition.  In essence, while the ‘higher self’ remains a conceptual and subjective experience, the heart-brain connection offers a potential pathway for accessing deeper levels of awareness and intuition. By nurturing the heart and engaging in practices that foster inner connection, individuals may find themselves better equipped to connect with their Higher Selves and their soul’s spiritual potential.

For whoever needs to hear this: I know it’s playing on your mind—the overthinking, the unanswered questions, the urge to reach out for clarity. But please, don’t contact that person for closure. The lack of an apology was your closure. The silence, the absence of effort, the refusal to communicate—those were all the answers you needed. Their actions (or lack of) spoke louder than any words ever could. You don’t need an explanation from someone who showed you, through their behavior, that they weren’t willing to fight for you or take responsibility.

Closure doesn’t come from them; it comes from you choosing to walk away, realizing your worth, and understanding that their inability to show up says everything about them and nothing about you. Keep going.
Their silence was your sign to move forward, not look back.
You deserve someone who meets you with effort, respect, and care—not silence. You are worth more than breadcrumbs and half-hearted excuses. Trust that their absence is making space for something better.
