Shamanic Shadow Work

What is Shadow Work? A Shamanic Perspective…

Shadowwork is a process of exploring the unconscious aspects of oneself that are often repressed, denied, or hidden. These aspects can include our fears, insecurities, traumas, and negative patterns of behavior. The term “shadow” was coined by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, who believed that these hidden aspects of ourselves were essential to our psychological and spiritual growth.

In shamanic traditions, the shadow self is often seen as a source of power and wisdom. By facing and integrating our shadow selves, we can access our full potential and become more whole and authentic individuals. Shamanic shadow work involves connecting with our innermost selves, our ancestors, and the spirit world to uncover and heal the wounds that have been buried deep within us.

Shamanic practitioners often work with spirit guides or power animals to gain insight and guidance in their personal growth and healing.  In the context of shadow work, spirit guides can help us to navigate the difficult and sometimes frightening terrain of our inner selves.

By working with our guides, we can gain clarity, courage, and support as we face our shadows.

Journeying is a shamanic technique that involves entering an altered state of consciousness to connect with the spirit world. In the context of shadow work, journeying can help us to access the deeper parts of ourselves that are often hidden from our conscious minds. By journeying to the underworld or other realms, we can confront and integrate our shadow selves.

Ceremony and ritual are important aspects of shamanic practice, and they can be powerful tools for shadow work. By creating sacred space and setting intentions, we can invite in the support and guidance of the spirit world as we delve into our inner selves. Ceremonies such as fire ceremonies, sweat lodges, and drumming circles can be particularly effective for shadow work.

Breathwork and movement practices such as yoga, dance, and qigong can be powerful tools for accessing and releasing blocked emotions and energy. By using the breath and movement to connect with our bodies and emotions, we can release stored trauma and connect with our authentic selves.

Shadow work is a powerful and transformative practice that can help us to become more whole and authentic individuals. From a shamanic perspective, shadow work is seen as an essential aspect of personal growth and spiritual development. By connecting with our inner selves, our ancestors, and the spirit world, we can confront and integrate our shadow selves, accessing the power and wisdom that lies within us. With the guidance and support of shamanic practices and techniques, we can embark on a journey of healing and transformation, becoming more fully ourselves in the process.

After thirty years of teaching Inner City, Special Education students and forty-five years of metaphysical studies, I have decided to share my life's philosophical understandings on this wonderful website. For me, everything in my life has been a spiritual experience from being raised in an alcoholic household, to marriage and teaching, and finally caring for an Alzheimer parent. I have sought at least fifteen, personal psychic readings to try and assist me as a wife, teacher and caretaker. I want to share the wisdom that I have gained from following the valuable spiritual guidance from my inner knowing and from heeding the advise of channeled answers from trusted psychics. At almost 70 years old, I am writing, traveling and enjoying retirement in Florida.
