Anger Is A Prison You Build For Yourself

August 5, 2026
Anger feels justified in the moment. It can feel like strength. Like you’re protecting yourself or standing your ground. But more often than not… it’s just us punishing ourselves for someone else’s mess.
They said the wrong thing. They crossed a line. They triggered an old wound. Then they walked away… while we’re the ones carrying it. We replay the conversation. We imagine what we should’ve said. We let it steal our peace long after the moment has passed.
The hard truth is that anger rarely hurts the other person. It hurts us. It keeps the nervous system stuck. It keeps the wound open. It keeps us tied to the very thing we’re trying to escape. Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and hoping someone else feels the effects.
Forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened was okay. It doesn’t mean you trust them again or invite them back into your life. Sometimes forgiveness simply means you’re no longer willing to let their actions occupy space in your heart.
Let it go… not because they deserve peace.
Because you do.
