Soul Growth In The Edgar Cayce Readings

October 12, 2025

The psychic readings of Edgar Cayce include more than 16,300 Bible references and quotations. In Dick Daily’s book, The Edgar Cayce Bible Companion, he gives the Biblical quotes that were spoken by the psychic under 48 subject headings.  These topics range from Soul Ideals to Fear and Worry, and to Divine Assistance.

In the chapter on Protection, Cayce quotes Psalm 46:1, ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’  A reference to this verse, that has inspired people for thousands of years, is included in Cayce’s reading number 1222-1: ‘,,, hold fast to that faith in Him. For as He is, was, holy; so may ye be holy in Him … He has promised to be thy counsel, thy guard, thy stay, and a very present help in trouble.  Remember Him also then, in thy joys as well …’

Protective forces are also angels who assist as read in Psalm 91:11, ‘For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.’  Cayce spoke of an army of invisible angels who are heavenly beings that do God’s work among men. He included a reference to this Biblical verse in the following message for a member of Study Group I in reading number 262-31; ‘… in thine own experiences, there is a way opened before thee. With fear and trembling hast thou put forth efforts at times; hence the injunction ‘Be not dismayed;’ Remember that He hath given His angels charge concerning thee, thus thine guard is ever in His presence…’

How to get the help of angels could be aided by our own awareness of their reality.  In Cayce’s reading number 2533-7, he says, ‘... the face of the angels ever stand before the throne of God; And as the awareness comes, it is as the angel of hope, the angel of announcing, the angel of declaiming, the angel that would warn, the angel that would protect are ever present for you as ‘He hath given His angels charge concerning thee …

Edgar Cayce spoke of Romans 8:31, ‘If God be for us, who can be against us?‘ in the following message for a 46-year-old bookkeeper in 262-25: ‘As the trust, the hope, the faith is manifested by the patience day by day, so does there come more awareness in self’s own inner consciousness that all is well with Him; knowing that if the Lord is on thy side, who may be against you?’

For The Prayer Healing Group during WWII, Cayce referred to Psalm 46:10, ‘Be still and know that I am God …’ in reading number 281-60, ‘Then, at that period when ye each are first aware as ye awake, be still a moment and know that the Lord is God.  Ask that ye be guided, this day, to so live that ye may stand between the living and the dead.  In the evening, as ye sit to eat, be still a moment.  For there is greater power in being still before thy God than in much speaking. Again, give thanks for the day and its opportunities.  And so may ye, as seekers for  divine guidance, be uplifted; and thus may ye hasten the day when war will be no more.’

Soul growth is a major theme in the Edgar Cayce readings. There is no substitute for prayer, meditation, the personal application of Biblical passages, and knowing their spiritual principles for those who wish to grow spiritually.”
